Joseph returns to the Metropolitan Opera as Rodolfo in ‘La Bohème’

6th January 2014

Following a landmark 2013 that included an appearance at the Kennedy Center Honors, Joseph Calleja begins 2014 in New York where he returns to the Metropolitan Opera to star as Rodolfo in La Bohème in Franco Zeffirelli’s much-loved production. The Maltese tenor headlines a cast that also features Maija Kovalevska as Mimi, Irina Lungu as Musetta, Alexey Markov as Marcello, Joshua Hopkins as Schaunard, and Christian Van Horn as Colline. Stefano Ranzani conducts.

Previously, Joseph sang Rodolfo at the Met in December 2010. Of that performance, the Associated Press raved that Calleja “has a voice unlike anyone else on the operatic scene today. A rapid vibrato gives his sound an alluring sweetness… There was an irresistible tenderness to his utterances when he first sees how ill Mimi is.”

La Bohème opens on January 14; Joseph can be heard as Rodolfo through January 30.
