French pop royalty descendant Lou Doillon's debut album is out now on Decca Records. Doillon, the daughter of iconic English singer Jane Birkin and French indie movie director Jacques Doillon, is the half-sister of singer/actress Charlotte Gainsbourg. Having been around the arts her entire life, perhaps her pursuit of a musical career shouldn't really come as too much of a surprise.
Lou Doillon's confidently weary voice, magnetic melodies and autobiographical songwriting come together on her heavenly debut full-length album, 'Places'. The album is a beautiful, sweeping array of songs, delivered with a gentle intensity.
Produced by Etienne Daho with Zdar (Phoenix, The Rapture, Beastie Boys) lending his prowess to mix the album, they collectively churned out a finished product that reveals great potential for this newcomer. Taking cues from Cat Power and Patti Smith, she weaves through her melodies with an elegance she inherently possesses.
